I agree with you that the projector doesn't use the reflector to project light. I understand that, but the projector mounts the to reflector which is angled higher. meaning the angle would be different in the low beam (in my mind). If i am wrong please correct me.

I'm not sure how most people mount their projectors as there is no said way to do it but I've.seen them mounted.with the reflectors removed entirely.

I pretty much gave up on mine.. Had that wiring issue a while back and had to set it aside for my sanity. Might try again this winter.
