Default Bike won't start

Okay... bike was working fine. never had problems. it's an 01 f4i.

Parked it for about 3 hours. Went back to start it up... wouldn't start. when I push the starter button... it just keeps trying to start... making the usual noise but not starting.

Was really low on gas so I put in 1 gallon... bike still doesn't start

I noticed the high pitched sound doesn't go on when I flick the engine switch to on. You know that sound (friends told me it's the fuel pump), I think that's the problem.

Could my problem be my battery? i need to recharge it?

Or is it deeper than that?

Perhaps the first and easiest thing to do would be to check your fuses. Might as well charge the battery at the same time....

Ok this my sound stupid, but I have to ask. Is the run switch on when you try to start the bike? If so, and you don't hear the fuel pump prime check fuses. If you don't hear the fuel pump prime check the voltage at the pump. If you haven't had any previous problems with the battery check the voltage. It may just need a little trickle charge, as you may have drained it trying to start the bike. Hope this helps. Keep up posted.

okay guys... IT IS NOT THE BATTERY. battery's just fine.

I'm gonna take it in for a diagnostics test next week... most likely it's the fuel pump. bike's working fine, except i'm guessing there's no fuel flowing that's why the bike's cranking.. but not starting.

ya guys got any tips on what to check for on the fuel pump? Never had any experience in those.

Best advise would be to get ahold of the service manual and check out pages 5-53 thru 5-54. There's a detailed section about fuel pump troubleshooting.

okay guys. I took my bike to a Honda motorcycle dealership and had them take a look at it.

They found the problem. A ground wire was damaged in the bank angle (i think that's what he said) and this leads to the fuel pump. With the ground wire damaged, it caused an electrical problem and that's why my fuel pump didn't prime... and with no fuel pump, bike can't start but it the engine will crank. Simple repair of the ground wire will fix the bike.

I just bought an 02 , and the previous owner pointed out the same problem, he claims after talking to other CBR owners that the problem stemmed from riding with the bright lights on all the time. This actually caused the groung wire to melt! So ar no problems.

I've been mostly riding mine for more than 5 years with the brights on and no problems.
