Default Bike will not go into First gear or Neutral after drop.

Hey guys,
A few of you guys might remember i picked up a dropped f4i a year back. Well i haven't returned to NJ since then. And the Starter relay fried a while ago. Well now It has a new starter relay. It fires right up. Smells like burnt Plastic for some reason but that may be because of the drop. and plastics melting on the exhaust.

But. Long story short. The bike fires up but no matter what i do.
Aka

Rotate the rear wheel
try to shift up and down
move it back and forth

the bike will not go into neutral or first.

It will Smoothly shift into ALL other 5 gears 2-6 Up and down perfectly fine
and will run fine

Just not neutral or first (probably because neutral is inbetween...)

Any ideas? Anyone else experience this?

And this bike I did not drop i bought it like this, i just want to iron out the kinks
thanks guys!
Jason

wouldnt make sense if the bike ran well before then a drop happened and first gear just dissapeared? what about neutral?

Is it possible the shifter linkage is bent somewhere and binding on something? There's pretty tight tolerances involved down there, and it wouldn't take a lot to mess it up. I understand you can downshift from 6th, but once you get to neutral, there's a slight more downward travel of the shift lever to get to 1st. Just a suggestion...

Might be the internal parts that were damaged when the bike went down, if the shifter was forced up (did it go down on the left side?) Maybe have a look at the linkage on another bike to see if it's bent.

I checked and looked it seems very straight and fine. Usually the rearset and the shifter will break before anything internal is damaged. It was a low speed impact nothing else was damaged just some scraping on the stator.

There must be something super easy that we are over looking here

Only thing I can think of is that gear is gone. However it may be. I'd take it to a shop, and just see what they say.

if i am reading this right, you said you bought a dropped f4i?..so the previous owner dropped it? i mean.. he could've held somethin back from you about the 1st gear problem..which brings me to this question..have you changed your oil? were there any pieces or anything that came out that shouldnt be there? since you bought it dropped then it most likely is the tranny..

and you also said it moves from 2 - 6 gear fine.. did you ride it without first and neutral? or did u just turn it on and rolled the bike to be able to get thru 2- 6?
