Better cornering

Default Better cornering

So after riding my buddy's 2006 R6S, I realized that his bike is very easy to frick into a turn where my 2001 F4i takes a little more effort to turn in. Is there anything I can do tomy bike to help it turn in a turn with less effort? I have already adjusted my suspension to the reccomended settings from Sport Rider

better tires + steering damper + galfer wave rotors + rebuilt forks + forged mag/carbon fiber rims. i dunno man most of that stuff is pricey. it took me a while to find the best riding technique on mine. it was easier to put my knee down on my other bike.

Aggressive profiled tires like the Michelin PP and some others will help give you that "fall into a turn" feel. If your tires are old or flatspotted (or both) just getting new tires will make a big difference.

I have mine set like this... It flicks in really nice. Took me a while fiddling with the suspension to get it to this point. Actually just finished today dialing in the turn ins. She is on rails now =) I'm 6.0 195 lbs.

5 Rear pre-load
3 lines showing front preload

Front Rebound = .75 turn out from full stiff
Front Compression = .60 turn out from full stiff
Rear Rebound = .65 turn out from full stiff
Rear compression = .45 turn out from full stiff

These numbers seem wierd I know. I started at a 1/2 turn out on all and tweaked from there. So you know .45 would be a little less then 1/2 turn out so forth and so on.

Lots of tweaking =)

Michelin PP's will also help with turn in but suspension has more to do with it then anything. Low tire pressure will also hinder turn in a bit.

Good Luck.. Oh ya btw... these bikes will never feel like a r6 or RR.. cus there not.

I am about due for tires. In my part of Ohio they get flat spotted pretty easily. So the Michelen PP's ahve better turn in than the Dunlop Qualifiers? I am more of a Dunlop man personaly

FYI...if you're anything over 150-160, you're over what the stock suspension can do for you. an F4i will never feel like an R6 (old skool) or the new R6S...they are just very flickable by nature...but have you noticed how much more stable the F4i feels in the corner? tracking both, i liked how flickable the R6 was, but i loved the stableness/neutrality of the F4i. one feels like you're riding on top of it, the f4i feels like you're riding in it...as previously stated, tire profile will aid tons in how the bike feels in turns. PP will make the bike dive in faster...which is something you may like or dislike.

R6 has more of a BMX bike feel IMHO. PPs on F4i won't necessarily help with initial turn-in, but once it's cranked over it will tend to want to stay there and continue to fall. Some people don't like it, but it forces the rider to use maintenance throttle to balance the bike in the lean and to maintain the desired line.

You can tweak the geometry to alter the turn-in characteristics, but keep in mind that you are balancing stability vsflickability.

tru dat bird...you can also lower the front or raise the rear to help turn in, but then you sacrifice stability for it...it's all give and take...but nothing is better than a good rider...that's why just about any motogp rider can whoop any advanced non-pro racer, whileon a stock bike not even suited to his weight, etc.
