Well then I'd be going to one of those places and paying to have it done right and not cheap out and paint them. You complain about having to pay to dismount your wheels...how were you planning on painting them without taking the wheels off? Mask your whole bike, swing arm, chain, rotors, etc, etc, etc?

Good luck, I'm sure they'll look great.

Default How to paint your rims

Remove the rims.
Clean the rims twice with grease remover/paint prep before you start to sand them. You don't want to grind in dirt while sanding.
Sand with 400 grit. Use tougher grit for chipped areas & finish with 400.
For the areas that are not chipped up use the 400 or I used the green scottbrite pads for the contoured areas that were hard to reach with sandpaper.
I used Rustoleum hammer finish black. This type of paint does not require a primer and it has a hammer finish that is great for hiding the imperfections of the paint. If you want to paint hammer finish but can't find your color in the hammer finish then pick the hammer paint closest to your desired finish color and then the regular Rustoleum paint for your topcoat. You cannot mix Krylon and Rustoleum paints. Rustoleum is an enamel and is more durable but it does have it's problems. Once you get started painting you need to be done with all your coats within 2-3 hours and then it has to dry for 48 hours before you can recoat if necessary. You can easily get 3-5 coats in less than 2 hours.

After your done sanding, reclean twice with paint prep solution to get all sanding dust off.
When your taping the rims make sure that you leave a little bit of the tire exposed to ensure that you get all of the lip painted. If your painting the rims black it won't even be noticable. If another color then let them cure for 2-3 days and then carefully use rag and goof off, desolve it, type cleaners. I did say carefully didn't I.
Check out my pictures I did on a 91 VFR 750. They are posted on my website at www.tomspinballcycle.com
The contact me section has a picture of before and after the paint job. With good effort you will have the results your looking for.
