Bent steering stem question

Bent steering stem question
I hope someone can help me as I am getting frustrated.
I bought a used triple tree off ebay to replace my bent one. When I put my replacement fork tubes through they didn't quite line up. This leads me to belive the steering stem on the used triple tree is also bent. They aen't too far off and I am able to force them through.
My question is:
1. Is this normal?
2. If not and it is bent then will this throw off the way the bike handles/tracks/rides etc.?

RE: Bent steering stem question
During my last crash I bent the lower triple clamp and not the upper and somehow managed to not bend the fork tubes. Pretty good for an 80mph lowside at the track with the bike flipping multiple times.
1: That is not normal, the fork tubes should slide in pretty easy with little to no friction going into the clamps.
2: If the triples are bent then the front wheel will not point straight when you have the handlebars pointing straight which also may make the bike easier to turn one way or the other.
In other words, get a known straight piece.
