Can you post a link? Octane is not a measurement of energy or burn resistance, it is a measurement of ignition resistance. Higher octane has a higher threshold before detonation and spark knock. That is the only difference.

Octane is also not a measurement of cleaners and the etc being stated either. Some manufacturers may advertise additives in their higher octane fuel but that has nothing to do with the octane of it.

Octane is the physical make up of the fuel. There are eight carbon molecules in the chemical makeup. Octane is mixed with the more volatile heptane. Traditionally 87 would have 87% octane and 13% heptane. There are in fact additves now, that affect the octane rating, which was derived from the relitiv estability of octane as a base point. Hence 105 octane is not 105% octane (generally has ethanol) but rather resists detenation 5% better than 100% octane.

Octane in a bottle is not octane, but rather a additive that will increase the resistance to ignition, thus increasing the octane rating. Octane and octane rating are not the same.

p.s. whe crude is "cracked" it seperates into many subtances in one process of refining, including propane, octane, heptane, kerosine, and the base for diesel.
