Post Am I hard on my bike?

Poeple/Mecahanics ask me all the time whether or not I am hard on my bike. I always say; No, but I honestly have no idea. What's being hard on your bike mean? I mean, I do accelerate fast, but I pretty much have never gone above 11/12K rpm. I ride fast (140mph max, but on regular bases), but once again I pretty much have never gone above 11/12K rpm. Ah yeah, and I don't do wheelies or bornouts..

Could someone more experienced than I put a number on how hard I am being on my bike? Give me a number between 1 and 10. 1 being my grandmother, 10 being the ghost rider (YouTube) and stunters... I want to be able to keep this bike ('04 4000miles) that I just bought at the begining of this season for at least 3-4 years without spending too much money on it so I would really like to know how hard I am being on the bike!

Thanks!

I have no idea either, one one of my bikes, the mechanic always asked me if I ride with the clutch pulled in half way.
That surprised me because I never did that and all my previous bikes were fine.

If you think your being hard on your bike then you are. But in all reality your not. These bike are made to do 140 without breaking a sweat. The red line is 14K so 11 or 12 is nothing. I hit the rev limiter on the way to work this morning and thought nothing of it. The only thing that are hard on these bikes are crashes and improper/lack of maintenance.

Can a person "over baby" there Bike? I've only seen the shift light once, and that was to test if it worked I usually shift around 6k just cause it feels right to me. Easier to manage the throttle and less jumpy Can I hurt anything just cruising?

Over babying a bike is not going to hurt it either. I normally shift around 5.5K when city riding. You're not going to hurt anything by just cruising.

^^^ Bingo, keyword, bulletproof.

I rag the hell out of mine, burnouts wheelies stoppies and rev limiter everytime i pass some hotties. Never had any problems. (hotties love the rev limiter BTW) They are called SPORT bikes, designed to be ridden hard IMO.

Like regener8ed said, maintanence is important and key to making the bike last no matter what your ride style is. Oil changes and chain lube are the biggies and MUST be done on the reg for longevity.

You know what makes this even more impressive is your bike is in pieces so this is just amazing
