Default Alternative/cheaper methods for rim tape?

Tapeworks.com has a good selection of rim tape... but it's a bit costly for me. The shipping alone is double the price of a set I want since I don't live on the continental US.

Are there any alternative ways to get the same effect. Doesn't have to be reflective or anything but I do want a red strip around my rims.

Friends have told me go to Walmart and get some kind of reflective tape there and do it homemade style.

Any other suggestions?

Go to an auto parts store and buy pinstriping tape. It can usually be found in widths up to 1/2 inch, which would probably be enough for rim strips. That or go to a sign shop that makes vinyl signs and ask to see their scrap vinyl. Get some in a color you like, perhaps even metallic or reflective, either for free as scraps or for a few bucks by the yard and cut it into whatever width strips you want using a razor and straight edge. That would save you a few bucks.

hit up the mighty ebay or just go to the autoparts store and get a roll of red pin stripe tape. Thats what I did on my F3 and it turned out nice but it took awhile since the pieces weren't pre curved.
