Hmmm...so just turn it counter clockwise as far as it'll go?

Phillips head or flat head? What did you use that fit down there??!!!

Just a small flat blade, you said you replace yours before just play around
with the old one to see how it works.

so i talked to this guy i know at a shop by me today he did work on a friends bike. he had a tensioner lifter out on the bench not sure out of what and he showed me what the guy ment about adjusting the automatic witch made perfect sense to me he told me that it wasnt a good idea for what ever reason but at the same time he was trying to talk me into getting the work done there. so thats most likely why he told me not to do it. if you have your cctl out and take that nut off and put a screwdriver in there an play around with it, it will make sense i wish i could explain it to help some people out.

So in a nutshell..is it safe for me to take off that nut, stick a screwdriver in there and turn it counterclockwise until it wont go no mo?!

i was being a cheapo and tried this exact mod. it only seemed to change the pitch of the rattle, and actually rattled across a wider RPM range between 4k-8k (instead of only 6k-6.5k). i tried several different adjustments but no luck.

although that mod might work for some, if your CCTL is bad just replace it with an APE and forget about it. i tightened the APE until the noise went away, then another 1/4 turn before locking it down. feels and sounds like a whole new bike...it's unbelievably smoooooth now.
