2600 miles of fun... 10 seconds of dumb

RE: 2600 miles of fun... 10 seconds of dumb
Like most people say after a bad-bad thing...
"..it all happened so...fast..."
I have practiced emergency braking.
but not enough it seems.
I have haule it down from 60 for a light turning red. (wasnt sure I was going to be able to stop for that one).
I have not lifted the back tire in the lot or on the street.
I wuss out...
"I know I'm gonna lock that thing, and end up on my head."
Sitting and trying to replay...
I think I might have been correclty on the brakes.
The approaching curb might have caused my brain to think about a leaning, as I considered when I might have to abandon the brakes and lay a turn.
Don't most of us say, "All i have to do is just think about turning, and it goes where I want."

I am considering 02-04 plastics off Ebay.
Just paint the front BLUE.
The right Black.
Mask off to spray where the blue decal would be (that I cant find for less than ridiculous price)
Headlight Assembly off Ebay.
Keep the bracket I have (doesnt seem to bent...just pull it out a little to make the "new" peicies fit)
New Mirrors (Carbon...OEM...or painted BLUE?)
Tinted DB WS.
waddythink?

The guys at work are killing me.
"Hey, where's your helmet?"
"Where's your bike?"

I have not lifted the back tire in the lot or on the street.

Here is that you do. Start from 40mph on a straight clean, DRY piece of pavement with NO TAR STRIPS.
Apply the brakes by gently squeezing the lever, then get progressively harder. The idea is to compress the front suspension slowly then apply maximum braking. Squeeze the tank with your legs and keep your arms loose on the bars. Remember you are NOT trying to do a stoppie. DO NOT TOUCH THE REAR BRAKE!!!!
The first couple times you will stop quickly but the rear won't come off the ground. Keep working on applying the brakes more and more until you feel the rear start to come up. Don't worry it won't just "flip over". Even with the rear 3-4 foot off the ground its totally controllable, but that is NOT what we are trying to do.
You will get max stopping power when the wheel is just skimming the ground. Once the tire gets higher than a couple of inches the braking power is wasted on trying to lift the rear in the air and you will have to taper it off.
Keep at it and remember DONT GRAB THE BRAKES. smoothly apply them. Make sure your tires are warm when you start. A cold tire will lock and slide easier.
This is just like a endo/stoppie except you DONT want to shift your weight forward and DONT want to lock your arms.
DO NOT do this at stoplights. The grease/oil/water/etc. on the pavement will put you on the ground fast. I have seen too many goofballs that think doing stoppies at lights is cool until they lose the front.

RE: 2600 miles of fun... 10 seconds of dumb...How long to fix?
I think I have decided to DIY fix.
Half for the challenge, and half because I havent claimed anything on insurance in the 11 years of paying.
Couple questions.
99-05 headlight Assemblies are identical to 06?
99-05 Upper Fairing are identical to 06? (besides color)
and...
Since the decals are not made aftermarket...
I think I will paint my Side Fairings.
Waddya think of something like this?
Recommendations for WindScreen?
Debadge or Not?
Carbon Mirrors or OEM?
(this pics are not of my bike...I moded somebodies...I dont recall whose)
