Unhappy 2005 Cbr600f4i wiring help

Hey guys! I got an 05 cbr 600f4i on a trade recently and he told me that the turn signals didn't work but they just weren't plugged in. They weren't, but my dumbass self decided it would be best to go in and clean up his terrible wiring job...so horribly done lol. So, I unplugged everything and started fresh. Only issue, is that this isn't an OEM tail light and they dont plug in they need to be hard wired...So, I got the turn signals working but now the brake lights AND the running lights wont work...I figure I'll wire in some new connectors and see if I can't wire the running light/brake lights in directly? I know which wires go where, but it seems now that I've removed all the previous work he did (which was pretty shotty) none of the wires that are supposed to work for the running light and brake light do absolutely nothing?? Please help! I've even tried just touching the wire with the other wires to make sure I'm not making any mistakes but I can't seem to find where my mistake is...

1. check your lights work by powering them directly
2. check fuses
3. follow the wiring diagram for your bike to find the correct color wires.
4. check you get power through the correct wires
5. connect them together ;-)

Draw out a circuit diagram of how the wiring is running now.

Either it will show you where your mistake is or you can post it here and we will have a clue what’s going on.

Thanks! I'll check the fuses today after school, I'm pretty confident I've blown a fuse because my speedo stopped turning on after something touched metal and sparked...

But, nonetheless I've probably done something wrong somewhere. I'll attach pics when able.

There's your mistake. Never ever just touch wires together to see what would happen. There should never be any bare wires anyway, they should all end up inside connector. To determine what signal is on wire, use multimeter and measure. You probably shorted power to ground and blew fuse. Pull ALL fuses and meaure. I'd be trilliionaire if I had penny for every time I heard, "Fuse looks OK!", but actually didn't conduct any electricity at all.

Here's wiring diagram. Do not go by wire-colours, they may have been replaced. Only use wire-end points and where they connect. For example:

1. turn-signal power wire connects at one end to fuse outlet and other end to flasher relay

2. outlet of flasher-relay connects to input of turn-signal switch.

3. etc. etc.

Troubleshoot by measuring voltage at each junction between battery to turn-signal
bulb. You may measure:
13v at battery ->
13v into fusebox ->
13v out of fusebox ->
13v ->
13v -> 0v <- Ahah!

There's problem between latest measured spot with no power and previous point measured that did have power. Probably broken wire. Confirm by measuring resistance of that particular wire segment end-to-end.

Restore factory harness with factory OEM connectors. Convert aftermarket lights by using factory OEM factory connectors. Then it's simple plug-n-play installation into factory harness. Never any need to hack up factory harness.

here's some pics of all the wiring. I unplugged everything and decided to start again from scratch. I can get brake lights and turn signals but I can't get my running lights. In fact, whenever I wire the turn signals in they will blink but when I turn off my turn signals they stay on. Help is appreciated! I fixed my fuse now everything works as it should? Kinda. I hate this wiring, really wish he stayed OEM on the tail light...

Red is running light/tail light I believe, green is brake light, yellow is turn signals and black is ground...also I wired in the red wire, and it acted as a brake light..? Maybe I wired it to the wrong wire.

stop going by wire colour! That's messing you up.

1st - need to determine all functions on stock harness by measuring them. Pull out meter and measure each and every single wire on factory harness. Put little pieces of tape on each one saying "ground" "tail light" "brake light" "left winker" "right winker"

2nd - put factory OEM connectors back on harness

3rd - put factory OEM connectors on aftermarket taillight. Find functions on aftermarket light by powering directly with test-leads on bench (9v battery works too). Label each and every wire with tape.

4th - plug aftermarket taillight into harness, done!

Bike's lights worked perfectly fine when leaving showroom floor. It will again when harness has been restored back to factory configuration. Look at my guide here:

If any winker lights are aftermarket LED, you'll need to install one ballast resistors per bulb.

I haven't gone by wire color. I used a 9 volt battery to determine this, as well as a multimeter.
I will try to restore this harmess back to OEM, and then hopefully it should.be plug and play.

Hello! will a dirty switch cause electrical issues? Me and my dad were wondering because when we were messing around with it, it had worked perfectly for a while but when we had turned the switch to check the other signals it had stopped working properly and was all wacky again. I had seen somewhere if it's dirrty enough in there it will cause electrical interference or sometimes it won't even work at all. I disassembled it last night and it was FILTHY in that switch. Could someone verify that for me? P.S. I checked the fuses non were blown. Thanks!
