well ive heard from various people here that they tuned down the 02 f4i to boost 600rr sales, but i guess that could easily not be true. if anyone could really verify this it would be awesome, if not, then sorry for wasting everyones time.

Ok, in 01 Honda rushed their line of the F4's to meet the competition from Suzuki. Both companies rushed their 600s to be FI and both did not turned the bike to managable setting. Fuel Injection is a tricky business. Anyway, Honda made a big booboo when they went with a slower 16 bit processor. I rememeber readin that in TDC or some other magazine years ago(dont quote me on that, hazzy memory). Next year they replaced the processor and everything was normal.
Honda does not need to tune-down the F4i's to beef up the sales of the RR. The ugly banana seat pretty much did the job. Anyway, both bike have the same engine, however, the fuel injection is programmed for dual stage on the RR. Giving it the difference of horsepower that you were talking about.
One or two HP difference is never noticable, so dont worry about it.

 

according to some old review of the bike
sports version of f4i came out for the years 01~02
changes include:
stronger clutch mechanism
seat changed to upper/lower sytle without the handle
without the center stand
sprockets changed for the rear improved acceleration

maybe that's why some say '01 got more power? because it's a sports version

 

but mine's a 01 model too... mine's the banana seat model... anyway... will be purchasing the PC3 and doing a dyno run soon... will update u guys on the BHP of the bike.. maybe will upload the dyno graph if available...

Bikez.com shows that 02 had 2 ponies more. Are you saying that they corrected the FI in the '02?
I recall that the F4i when it came out was a 2001.5 year model as there were some F4's in '01 as well. Can anyone confirm?
