1000....

1000....
Hey everyone. I was thinking on maybe trading my 600 F4i for a 1000. I've been riding my F4i for about a year now and I think it might be a little too small for me now since I like to lift weights all the time. lol. 240 lbs. So, would the step up to the 1000 be a mistake or too big of a jump or what?

RE: 1000....
A 1000 ain't gonna carry more weight but it will accelerate the bike faster. If you want the liter bike, then that is it, get it. But after only a year of experience it may be too much bike for you, I know it is for me.
Also, the 1000RR (My buddy has an 05 I ride)is a 'smaller' bike though, you may feel more cramped on it, I'm 5'8" 200lbs and it is OK for short stints, but the F4i is still nicer to just ride.

too small as in down on power and not the actual size of the bike...correct? cause bikes aren't like pants where you need bigger cause you work out.
your suspension really doesn't suit your weight though. as for power...no, not enough power to show off, but enough for you to lay the smack down on the asphalt.

I don't think the 1000RR is any larger physically than the F4i you own now. As far a suspension and handling if you've only been riding for a year I doubt you canride either bike near its limit. As far as I see it there is only 3 reasons for you to jump to the 1000.
1) More power (alot more power!)
2) Modern styling (you want a "newer" looking bike)
3) You need to be able to tell people you ride a liter bike (ie "poser")

RE: 1000....
great advice dude...
so in a sense...if his lack of experience causes him to crash or cause an accident in which someone else's family is hurt, or he's hurt, who really cares right? it's not happening in YOUR backyard...right?
now flip it, what if someone else gave a rider your advice and in turn, his lack of experience causes an accident to someone you know?

Oh come on.. Isnt that a stretch? Save that drama for ya momma. =)
In all seriousness.. Maybe it sounded wrong the way I worded it. If the guy has been riding for a year stepping up to a 1000rr he can do. He will have to respect the bike just like he did when he bought his f4i as a new rider. But telling the guy to stay away from a 1000rr is just silly.
The bike goes as fast as he twists the throttle.

RE: 1000....
It is funny, GTOs were fast 13.5 seconds in the 1/4, my big block vette is about the same. Now we see porsche turbos and vipers running 12 flat and basically worshipped by people for their performance. Take the next step and think about how dangerous these vehicles can be in the hands of most people. I remember how the 1985 Mustang GT was decribed as a 'kid killer' by some magazine and that thing was probably a 14.3 second car (I had an 88).
Now look at sportbikes, 10.6 for a 600 or 9.8 for a 1000. These things are quicker than a NASCAR cup racer or probably a Formula 1 car, those things you have to work for YEARS to become qualified to drive. Now any douchebag (me included) can give Honda $8000 and I got me a vehicle that is without a doubt way out of my league and will take me years to be in control of and maybe not even then. All this speed without any crash protection. From a purely objective point of view it is lunacy, maybe that is the allure of a sportbike. The abilty to own and drive something so obscenely fast and dangerous is hard to pass up. Kind oflike boinking a supermodel thatjust happens to bedating a very jealous Chuck Liddel.
I just have to wonder how on earth this can be considered sane. All I can say is motorcycles are dangerous, sportbikes given their potential are especially dangerous. These aren't guns, these things are more like a viscious dog on crack, a 400lb pitbull/doberman mix that is sometimes controllable, a thing that we think we can master, but these things do bite and when they do they will f**k your **** up, and all it takes is a split second.
I've been really thinking about this lately after reading all the threads about people getting hurt by pushing it too hard. I really think my next bike is gonna be a big V-twin cruiser, maybe a Victory 8 ball or 1200 Sportster. I have all the self control and discipline in the world, but all it takes is a split second mistake while riding a sportbike the way it was intended and it is game over.
I guess what I am saying is that on the street, a 600cc sportbike iscrazy to begin with, but a 1000cc bike is just completely insane no matter who you are.
