Default what size tap

Does anyone know what size tap and thread pitch I need too tap out the rear brake rotor bolts? Its the four that mounts the rear rotor to the rim. I had one shear off while I was riding and broke the brake caliper bracket also.

I'd be looking into why it happened cause that aint normal. Did the bolt shear and leave the thread in the hole? If so, you'll need to drill it and use an easy out to remove it. The thread might still be ok but if it isn't then you will be needing to either go down the helicoil path or drill it larger and tap it to suit a larger bolt. Obviously the rotor will need to be drilled to suit that bolt size. Sounds a bit strange that it happened in the first place though.

The bolt just backed out a 1/4" or so im guessing and cought the brake bracket and got sheared off. I've already drilled it out just need to tap the thread and get the remaining out. Should have been some locktite on the bolts or something, right?

That explains a bit. Definately put them back in with something like 242 locktite (the blue one) after cleaning the threads really well.

Yeah - I'd almost put hi temp loctite. not a lot - that stuff is a nightmare to get out, but you shouldn't be removing rotors back there very often.

8x24 is the bolt size. 24 is the length. I think it is 24mm long. I got a tap that is 8x1.25 which is the thread pitch. Im going outside shortly to check it out.
