Okay, I took the vacuum chamber covers off while doing my carb cleaning and inspection. When I pulled the jet needle holder and jet needle from the vacuum piston/diaphragm assembly I noticed that only one of the four jet needles had a washer.

Shouldn't they all have washers?

Yeah, they should all have a washer, even if everything is stock. Everything on my '93 F2 is stock and having taken the carbs off for a clean this winter I know for certain there are washers on all my jet needles.

Thanks, I talked the mechanic at the dealer today. He said leave the one I have out so none of them have that washer. He said it only effects the high range, high speed. Since I don't plan on racing (at my age) I'm going to run the carbs w/o the washers. If it really effects the bike I guess I''ll put them back in.

Well, he's correct and incorrect - leaving the shims out (which is roughly half of one clip position), will "drop" the needles lower, and decrease the amount of fuel for that circuit, the pilot circuit determines your fueling at about 5000RPM to roughly 7500RPM, so, he's close, but it's your midrange that's affected - your main jets determine your fueling at top end.

JNS, thanks......I'm running the bike without any of the washers/spacers and "seems" to be running fine. I do notice a little hesitation now and again at about 4-5k rpm's but accelerates smooth and strong with no sputtering at the higher rpm's..... I have not had a "tech" sync the carbs so they might be off just a smooge. Thanks
