Default quick question about starting with slightly open throttle

I just recently cleaned my 91 cbr carbs and changed all the carb gaskets and threw in a k&n filter. Sometimes, the bike will just turn over and not start until I give it a little gas with a slightly open throttle. It will start with the choke sometimes but most of the time I have to give it a little gas while pushing the starting button. After that it runs and idles perfectly, just upon initial cold starting is when i have to give it a little gas.

What may cause this? Am I hurting anything by doing this? Im a little new to bikes

That's normal. Your pilot settings or carb sync may just be a little off, but this is no problem.
