Are you talking about just swapping the coils, or the whole engine management system?

the coils might be swapped - but I'm not really sure what you're looking for in doing the swap. F2/F3 coil peak voltage spec is the sameas an F4i according to the manual.

If you're talking about swapping to EFI, then I would answer with my standard on swaps like these:

"Anything's possible with enough $$$"

Unfortunately, you're talking about a pretty involved swap. The newer bikes - esp the F4i and RR are fuel injected, and their engine management systems are built around controlling the fuel delivery. There are throttle position sensors, cam sensors, timing sensors and other things that just aren't on an F2, and the motor isn't capable of having retrofit for any small amount of $$$, if at all.

If you want a fuel injected powerplant and their ignition systems - you might be talking about an entire engine swap as the easier route.

If you want an EFI motor in there, don't do an EFI swap, just throw your old F2 in the trash and get a newer EFI bike with the superior chassis/weight/suspension and all that good stuff. The motor swap isn't worth the trouble considering all the fabrication and the ancient chassis it's going into.

If you want the best F2 you can get, then that's different. You CAN easily put an ignition advance on the bike, it just moves the crank sensor a couple degrees from the stock position, giving you more aggressive ignition timing. Run hi-test if you do this. There were some fancy CDI/ECUs back in the day for this bike, but they're probably hard to find. I hear the F3 CDI plugs right in and is slightly more aggressive in it's ignition timing. Other than that I don't know. I agree with adrenalinjunky on the rest. I wouldn't bother too much with ignition, carb jetting, camshafts (if you have a 50 state motor) and pipes is where it's at for easy horsepower pickups on the F2.

i am not talking about swapping the efi for my carbs not by a long shot im talking about switching the ignition switch itself where the key turns and the gas cap lock and all that.. am i able to put a newer one of those on my F2?..

Oh. Well F2/F3 ignitions and tank locks are the same, check ebay for a set. Im sure newer ones would work with some customization, but they have a lot more functions they are controlling, and they might not fit in the triple. I don't know about the tank lock, that is probably less likely to work.

Checked parts list and, yes, f2 looks like a straight swap with f3.
However the f4 and later, appear to be a different part and are defineatly a different part #. I'm guessing that the fork lock is not going to work with the f4 ignition set(IF you can figure how to mount it). I'd stay within the f2/f3's for a replacement. I just bought a complete set, i.e. ignition, gas cap, helmet lock for $125 +$18 shipping on ebay, so they are out there.
