Default More electrical issues

Okay, I had this bike running like an effin champion of the sun after the motor swap and streetfighter build. Then i screwed up and put a speedometer through my wiring mess and killed the bike. Its a mechanical speedo but i figured i touched something. Anyways, the bike starts up when its connected to an outside battery (car battery turned off, charger, etc..) and it'll sometimes start up by just push starting it. However, the bike wont stay idling for long and the battery doesn't charge when riding the **** out of it (80mph for about 40 minutes) as well as the bike sometimes will die if i have my normal running lights on, but runs when the brights are on. (brights are 20watt running 2 50 watts). Also the battery is brand new, currently 2 days old.

Trying to figure out if i have some loose wire that draws all of the juice from the battery immediatly, or maybe i just blew up my stator? This all happened when i put the speedo in an i kinda enjoy riding with it but i can do without it

may have short in the r/r. test the stator for a short to ground and winding integrity. a bad r/r can do funny electrical things like that.

doesn't mean it's good. check that stator. a shorted stator will fry a brand new r/r.

sounds good, how do i test the stator? I have a new stator on my other motor i can pull and swap in but testing sounds like a good idea

use an ohm meter.

each pin should have continuity with each other, complete circuits. an open circuit means a winding is broken.
each pin should have NO continuity to ground, open circuit. if there is a circuit completed there, it's shorted to ground.

there is an a/c output test, but you need a meter that reads ac volts. but if the continuity tests are good, your ac voltage is probably okay.

hmm, i have a multimeter, kinda confusing tho. i think ima slap in a stator and see what happens. Kinda like the old method of replace everything till it works hahaha

best way to test...replace with a known good part!

Annnn update...

So i replaced the stator, starter, and kinda rewried the headlight and have come to the realization theres a damn short some where... fffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. it happened when i put the speedometer in i probably knicked a damn wire and now its touching something stupid. I do however, have one of my grounds from the instrument panel connected to a bolt thats connected to the starter switch... lol could that also be the probs?
