Default Little Oil

Picked up my 94 Honda CBR 600 about a week ago and I noticed it was leaking something.

So I opened up the... clutch/alternator cover? I don't know hardly anything about motorcycles.

Seems oil is getting through the crack somehow and then dripping down. And that's where I'm at now. How do I fix this? Also, should oil be in the alternator like this?

Yes, it's fine that oil is in there. Supposed to be.

It's hard for me to tell what's going on in the first picture. Are those globs of silicone around the cover? Welds, too, perhaps? I looks like there are definitely globs of gasket material.
It may just be a shotty gasket job on the cover and it's leaking out a bit, but it looks sorta shady. lol..

I would remove all the gasket and see how well it all mates up......then reseal it.

I would also figure out wtf they did with that coolant hose (like why they zip tied a plastic sump pump hose around it)

Oh, and definitely check and top off your oil when you're done. Looks like you lost some.

I thought maybe they zip tied that thing around the house to protect it from engine heat? Is that a thing? I guess I should remove it and see what's going on under there.

As far as the globs of stuff, it looks like a lot of melted plastic to me.

My first thought was it might be there to add rigidity to the hose - to straighten it out. If its kinked the coolant wouldn't flow well.

Could be.

New issue. I took the float bowl covers off the carb to clean them. Had a lot of varnish in them. I removed the gaskets so that I could dip them into carb solution. Can I use same gaskets when putting the cover back on? Do I have to use any kind of sealer?

Yeah, you can re-use them if they're in decent shape.

But..... you shouldn't really be putting rubber seals in carb cleaner.

Okay great. I thought I was going to have to order them and wait another 2 weeks before putting the carbs back together.

I took the gaskets off before using the carb dip on the covers. If I can reuse the gaskets, I'll just re-insert them into the outer groove on the covers.

They will probably be ok. I've re-used mine plenty of times.

Just remember (as a general rules) that carb cleaner sometimes doesn't play well with rubber/plastic parts. Best to clean them with some mild soap/water if they really need it.
