Fresh oil on plugs ?
ok a leak test it is.
Having not completed one before how do I rule out the head gasket if I am doing that anyway because of the bubbles in coolant etc. Do I have to replace the gasket, rebuild and test again ?.
Thanks

If the gasket is blown, the leak down test will show it. You won't be able to test the rings on that cylinder due to the much bigger leak from the gasket. Use the results from the other cylinders to make a guess on the condition of the one with the gasket problem, if there is one.
You could also test the gasket with a hydrocarbon test of the cooling system. Its much easier to do. It looks for exhaust gasses in the cooling system.

ok, just decided it probably not worth exploring any more on this engine.
my next big question is can I put a 96 F3 engine into the F2? I would still want to use the F2 carbs, boots, air box, wiring etc.. essentially just swap the engine straight in.
Found a corker of an engine but need to pick it up asap if i want it.
thanks
