Default Clutch rumbling, chattering noise

Hello all, I just purchased a clean 1993 CBR F2 with 23.5K miles. Everything is in good-great shape; I bought it off the second owner and the first was a woman. The bike has sat mostly for the last two years, but fires up and runs great. My main concern is a noise I am hearing when the bike idling. While sitting in neutral, the bike makes a rumbling, chattering noise. When I squeeze the clutch lever, it goes away entirely. I am reminded somewhat of the throwout bearing that made noise in a similar situation in my Mustang; however, that was more of a whistling noise. This is a low rumbling, chattering noise. Almost like a clothes dryer mixed with some pinging. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Jon

The f2's have a noisy clutch. Don't worry too much about it unless its very noticeable/loud.

So that is normal? I've never heard anything like that.

Yeah, A lot of the f2's have a clutch chatter in neutral. Completely normal.

Do an oil change if you're really worried about it and make sure no metal parts or anything are in your oil. Some thicker oil might help some too if you're running some thinner oil.

Mine does the same thing and rides damn hard. I've had it for nearly a year and it still pulls damn hard!

Most bikes make a bit of a chatter in neutral with the clutch out. It's generally from the plates rattling around in the basket with a bit of wear. Some are louder than others, and unless it's real bad... I wouldn't worry too much about it. A carb sync and new cct can help, but won't get rid of it entirely.
If you can get near another honda to compare with, that should ease your mind.
I've heard some that sounded like Kieth Moon going nuts with ball peen hammers on the inside of the clutch cover. lol...
BTW, Welcome to the forum.

Mine makes noise, even with a manual CCT.

I should do a carb synch though, and a valve adjust!

I can feel mine kind of rumbling after a long ride when I put her in nuetral while the garage door opens.

Thanks guys. I will try and respond to all. I don't know if the CCT is stock. It doesn't sound like a chain rattle, however. Today I thought I heard the noise while cruising in third at about 30mph. The noise itself is not too bad, but it is noticeable. I agree with a loose-sounding clutch basket. I don't ride it too hard, as it is much more bike than my last (EX500).

Side question: What can I expect to pay for a valve adjust/carb sync? How do I know if I need one? The engine runs strong and sounds awesome.
