UUh.. Is it me, or am I hearing a crazy noise in that video that sounds a lot like a chain rubbing very tightly over chain guides. I have the APE on my '94, and a whine like that is not present at all. It's just smooth engine noises all the way up the RPM range.

Just got my APE in the mail today. it will be going on this weekend. :)

I installed the manual cct but mine told me to remove the chain guide... sounded a little shaky to me so I just installed it and followed the adjustment instructions seems to work great. Just wanted to throw that out there. Oh and I didn't remove the chain guide.

Just changed mine out. I here a new sound, one I can only describe as a "whine" that seems pretty constant. I don't think the CCT is too tight. I even backed it off till I got a bunch of racket and then screwed it in again...

It definitely seems better than it was though. On a cold start for about 1-3 seconds, it sounded really bad, but soon as the oil started flowing it went away.

Also, I assume that the dirty water dripping out of the exhaust is normal (in vid, definitely a slow drip and isn't very constant at all.)? I haven't noticed it before. Seemed it only happened when I ran the bike for a very short time (minutes) while I was messing with different things.

Im not totally sure what new sound your talking about in the video. I heard what sounded like valve noise but thats pretty normal. Also how often do you change your oil? And what weight oil do you use this time of year?

My recommendation is using a 5w-30 for the spring and fall and 5w-40 in the summer. synthetic is optimal but not a necessity if you keep up on your oil.

My Cam chain rattles like hell, didnt like it, but what i could do. So i came across information about Manual CCT and APE`s. Started to search them at my local dealers, but none of them had something like that, and the Ebay price+ shipping is a bit pricey :(
When i saw one post here that you can make M CCT at home, i thought, what the hell, and made it :D
Its really simple, just take OEM CCT, i had my old Hidraulic CCT, and just bored the hole in its upper side. Made internal thread in it, and finde bolt for it to fit at the right lenght. I hadnt put it on yet, but will do it in a few days.
Also I will post few pictures, that you can get the idea what im talking about here :D
But, as i said, its really really simple and cheap way ;)

I'm usually not a huge fan of shady modded-up parts like that, but I played with my stock CCT for a while and I really don't see anything wrong with converting it to a manual CCT. I think it's a very reasonable avenue for those short on cash. Just make sure whatever bolt used is pressing evenly on the cam chain guide. I recommend pulling the pulser cover too in order to properly set up the timing system at the perfect tension. I feel so much better about mine after doing that.

The noise is under load, that seems to be consistent with RPM in frequency but not volume (frequency changes with rpm but volume is pretty constant) At idle I think it sounds fine. I don't have a good way to get some audio of it while ridding atm.

Just changed the oil pretty recently (after a fiasco with my oil pan...) I have 10-40 in it based on what I have read on this forum. The oil has maybe 100 miles on it. Maybe.

I don't feel that it is an issue, especially if it sounds okay at idle. I might just be hypersensitive to how it sounds or it is just the difference in the hydrolic vs manual CCT.
