Default burned up 2 R/R in a week

seems like I have a problem. I know I should be testing the stator, but does anyone know if there would be another reason for this?

My plan is to test and most likely replace the stator, and also the r/r. I just want to make sure this doesn't happen again

Are these stock R/R's? How does the connector look? If the connector is corroded, the R/R could be forced to dissipate more heat than normal and blow. Good luck, charging issues are horrible.

Were they new r/r's or fleaBay specials? If you bought used, they coulda been defective already.

That said, you have to check the entire charging system and wiring before replacing anything. Because if you missed the real problem, you can end up in your current situation: wasting $$$s killing working parts.

I wouldn't go randomly replacing things. Test all appropriate voltages and resistances, and replace the part that tests faulty. Blindly buying parts is a good way to land yourself in a poor house with a broke-*** bike.

Both r/r that burned up were the stock oem replacement with cooling fins. The connector to the R/R is burnt in 2 spots. I would have to assume it is was overcharging, it kills the r/r, then I ride until the battery gets sucked dry of juice.

I'm going to charge up my battery, then get some good test readings. I will keep you posted

You need to replace that connector then. Electrosport is changing ownership right now so they aren't taking orders. But they sell replacement connectors that fit OEM r/r's. Just cut the old one off and put the new one in its place.

Only other way I've seen to get just the connector is via another wire harness

The connector is ugly and kinda burnt up in a few spots, but the metal still makes contact. I'm gonna test some things out and post back up

Definitely test your stator and see what's really going on. Also, you might want to consider replacing the OEM R/R with one off of a GSX-R and just eliminating the connectors all together.

wtf. ok so I ran a whole grip of tests on the bike, hot and cold. Every test was in spec, sans the red/white wire to a ground. The resistance was too low, in which the guide prompted replacement of the stator. The 2nd r/r that burned up, I threw it back on the bike and didn't have any of the previous issues, even with all the burn marks lol. Rode around for 30 minutes, the battery had the same voltage as when I left, thats good

The r/r gets really hot when I ride, its unbearable to touch, is this normal?

sorry kids, rant isn't over yet

How in the eff can my voltage at the battery be well below the maximum and still fry 2 r/r's, I don't get it. I tested the bike hot and cold to see if there was any difference in voltages, resistances, yada yada yada. The only thing wrong was that the resistance was a little low at the stator itself. Can anyone interpret that data as the cause of the entire problem though?
