I know driving with my buddy on the highway, just cruising, that he managed to pull 164 in his R6, however there was no limit or cut off, just what he stopped it at. I don't think personally it should matter or be a concern, cause that's triple the highway speed limits pretty much.

I had mine to 163, 6th gear right up near rev limiter. Actual speed is a little less because the speedo is off a few %'s. Putting a pipe or PCIII on won't make your top speed go up, just help you get there faster. The only way to raise the top speed if you felt like you needed too would be to gear it or head work so you could raise the rev limiter. Other than messing around from time to time, you won't need to raise it because you won't come near top speed on any tracks 1/4 mile or road racing track.

the 07+ model 600rr has been confirmed by multiple mag's that use gps dataloggers as toppin out between 162-165mph. that's pretty freakin fast for a 600, the new r6 with it's variable stacks has also been tested by multiple mags up to a gps confirmed 170mph, no faster though, and i would say only in perfect condition with a backwind would the r6 do that, first production 600 ever though that's been datalogged that fast. the 1000's are not doing 186, not even the 10r's with the motor.
i've geared my rr7 down and top out a gps-confirmed 145 but what more do you need? top speed gets boring after awhile and it def doesn't take any skill to twist the throttle hard in a straight line
