Hey, quick question.. I want to remove all the warning / tire pressure / vin /emissions / chain slack stickers from my bike. I've already peeled the fuel, helmet, and load warnings off of the tank, that was easy. My question is the two stickers on the rear swing arm and the vin sticker on the frame of the bike. Can I peel those off without harming the finish or are they stuck fairly solidly? I could give 'em a quick pass with a heat gun to make removal a little easier if needed, but I'm not going to do it if its going to mar the finish.

 

I used a razor blade to get the stickers off and some cleaner to remove the residue. It was fairly easy. I have an 05 so i dont have the black swing arm.

 

Yeah, thats my main concern.. The powder coat on the swing arm is almost a flat black, so I'm worried that I'll mar it by pulling the stickers off, or even mildly polish it to a gloss with goo gone or any of those type cleaners..

 

Alrighty, got them all off, except the drive chain one. I didn't try to remove it because on the black plastic chain guard, there is a shiny black box where the sticker goes, so if I were to remove it, it would just be a shiny black box.. But its on top of the guard, so from a side profile, you can't really see it.. and it'll remind me to check the chain, so its a win anyway.

Anyhow, I used a wagner heat gun on the low setting, and heated the stickers with several quick passes, spaced apart to heat them slowly and not burn the paint, etc. They were quite warm to the touch, but not "hot". I used my fingernail very gently to get under the stickers on the swing arm, and was able to peel them off so cleanly, they looked brand new.. So I relocated them to the inside of thetrunk. Why not.. the VIN sticker on the frame was a bit of a pain, because it is partially covered by the fairing. I covered the fairing with a cloth, and heated that sticker up, little by little until it was warm, then peeled most of it off. It left alot of sticker residue though,but that came right off with some goo gone. It has been destroyed though, nothing left of it.

So, first mod done! lol.

 

FYI: Tampering with a VIN number is against the law. keep that in mind though it sounds like it might be too late so keep it on the DL

 

naa, this is just a vin sticker, the real vin is stamped into the frame.

As long as you dont grind the VIN off the Frame your good to go.
