I use simple green to clean the bike with minus the lenses. I only clean the outside of the chain as I just lubed it. I use soap and water on the days I can detail it.

will have to try that, do you dilute your simple green? or is it "weak" enough to use straight? just dont want to eat through gaskets and such.

I did my rims the same way. All i did was spray the paint stripper on. Waited and wiped it off. Then used mothers polish to polish them. The aluminum is shiny under the paint. Mother's did a good job on mine.
