painting with a rattlecan
 

Sup folks, the paint on my gas tank is starting to chip/fade/rust in a few spots so i was wondering what kind of paint will i need? I only have access to using rattlecans spray paint. I know prep>prime>paint but was wondering if i needed anything specific.

I read that thread and it didn't have the answer i was looking for, and rather hijackin the thread i figure i make a new one. I wanted to know if there was any paint that's fuel resistant or a clear coat that is. Already used the search feature and didn't find anything.

Not sure if this will help but this is what I did. First off I used Automotive primer after I prepped the surface. I used Rustoleum brand paint (3 coats), the regular spray stuff, and the same brand for my Clear coat (3 coats). My friend in the airline industry just told me that there was a study done that proved Rustoleum brand paint to have to hardest/most resistant surface once FULLY cured (about 3 weeks). Roughed up my primer with 400 grit paper before putting on my base coat. And honestly I think the paint will hold up and look just fine. It's all about the technique when painting that'll create a glossy finish and full coverage. Check out my album. I used rattle can and it turned out great. Just be careful handling for the first few days, until it cures nice and hard. After mine fully cures ill go over it with light rubbing compound and a wax to give added protection. Not sure if there are specific paints for added resistance if you are limited to spray cans like i was. Like I said, just my 2 cents...

I'll take a look at the Rustoleum clear coat, I just need something for a semi-temp fix for about a year :P
