It depends how much you want to spend Ppg and Nexa are expensive but great base and clear. Schrwin williams automotive paint is cheaper but holds up good and a little easier to work with IMO for little experience. There are some cheaper brands but they want hold up as good.

The purpose of thinning the paint is so it will atomize better or spray through the tip of your spray gun most companies mix the base coat 1:1 which is one part paint and 1 part reducer and some recommend a splash of hardener for durability. The clearcoat like Ppg mixes 3:1:1 which is 3 parts clear, 1 part reducer and 1 part hardener.

You can use the same gun for base and clear just make sure you clean it out real good. The only problem you might have is the gun is set up for base it might not lay the clear out as smooth but anything can be buffed out.HAHA On my guns use Sata Rp and my base gun has a 1.3 and my clear gun has a 1.4 tip. But that is only preference.

Hope I didn't confuse you to much Pm if you have anymore questions.
