i just had a few questions on cleaning my bike. when it comes to my car i swear by turtle wax products. but ive never cleaned mike bike yet havent had it that long so never had to. i just wanted to know the best way to go about it and make it look sharp any input would be appreciated

 

First off, don't be afraid to get it wet. It's ok to hose it down. Naturally I wouldn't spray water directly into any of the wiring connectors or intake areas, but just use good judgment on that. I use Meguiars products for washing and waxing. They make a good wheel cleaner which helps remove some of the road grime from the wheels. Be carefull with degreaserswhen working around the drive chain, you don't want to be removing the lubricants from that. If you've got Paddock Stands it helps since you can spin the wheels to get them clean. Don't use any tire gels or similar products. It has a tendency to run down the side of the tire and get on the tread. A very bad thing on motorcycle tires. When ever I purchase a bike, which I did recently. I take all the fairings off. It makes it easier to do a thorough first cleaning. I just recently bought a 1998 F3. I clean the chain with mineral spirits and a brush. Then use Duponts Teflon Chain Lube.Here's a during and an after photo, I didn't take any before's.

I use Honda Polish. After every ride I wipe down the entire bike.

 

there is some stuff called Plexis it is used in aviation specifically for wind screens.
increadible stuff after a wash just spray on and wipe off with a soft nonlint cloth.
i use it on everything. about 6 bucks a can. it removes any waterspots and leaves a great
shine. very slick...

man, i'm surprised how well some of you guys take care of your bikes... i need to get off my ****! i was at a dealership and was talking to the guy there who does nothing but washes bikes all day long. he says do it in the shade to avoid water spots, hose it down, lather w/ soft sponge mitt, rinse, dry w/ chamosis. i do that now and it works pretty well for me. i use the same cleanser that i use for my car. i'd like a nice shine on my bike too though. isn't getting it too slick dangerous since it'd make it difficult to grip the bike w/ the legs?

 

The way I clean my bike is by using Simple Green and then hosing it off. It really cuts the grease and doesn't leave a film on the rims or plastics. I always wipe my bike down with a micorfiber cloth after each ride, so it doesn't get too dirty.I also use a little compressed air to blow away any of the water that I can't get to, it really helps in keeping the water spots down.

 

Another note...Never use soap. You'll have to wax it a whole lot less.
