I am looking to get a 954 soon but i am stuck between two. Both bikes are red and black. One has 13k(2002) miles and the other 27K(2003). The higher mileage one is the original owner majority highway miles and adult driven 45+years old. He is also a mechanic and the bike looks brand new with original sprockets and chain so i don't think he rode it hard. The one with 13k miles is not as clean but in good shape, multiple owners and may have been lightly stunted("Few wheelies here and there" , Busted fork seals?,spinning servo motor with FI warning). The 27K is going for $4600 with new/in-box billet stator cover, rear shock re-valve kit. The 13K version is going for $5500 possibly down to $5300? Which one would you go for? and are these good prices for 954s or should i hold out for better deals? Thanks

 

This seems like a no brainer to me. It would definately give me peace of mind knowing that my ride was taken care of and given the explanation of the '03 you gave, i would buy that. First of all its a Honda, and the high miles dont harm the reputation that goes with the name. Also the price is somewhat nuetral, not too high or low. Finding a very good condition used bike for under 5000 is what i would expect to pay and a good deal. Good Luck!!

 

I would get the 03, dont sweat the miles. There are at least 3 of us here i can think of with over 50k miles, thats not an issue.

get the 03' its better to have a good platform to start with and know the actual history of the bike your buying... i paid alot more than that because im the second owner of my current 954 and wanted the REAL history on the bike. - good deal, id get it.

 

I got my 2002 CBR954 about a month ago. It has 13k miles on it and i got it for $4000. And it is is really good shape. I would be cautious if you suspect that the bike may have been stunted. You could wait to see if any better deals come along. It depends of you want a 954 real bad. They are pretty hard to find and not to common. Dont get me wrong, they run really nice! They were just only manufactured 02 and 03. In this case I would lean towards the one with the origanal owner.

 

Sounds like the 03 is the way to go. I got my 03 last spring in mint condition one owner with 8300 miles for $5300.

 

I got my 03 2 years ago from the original owner with 16k on it. I paid 5,500 for it. I think I paid too much but it is mint and this was from a guy in his late 30's n the original owner. He took real good care of it so I was willing to shell out the extra bucks. I also wanted the bike so bad at that point n time that it was a no brainer. Buy the bike from the mechanic. He knows what he's doing and took care of it. I guarantee it. TK you got over 50k on yours right?

 

Thanks for all your help but along came another bike. It is an 02 with 18K miles. It may be the second or third owner. The latest owner only put on 7Kmiles the last two years. The bike rides the best of the three I tested but also has the most mods including full hindle, power comander, GPR Stabilizer, HRC quick turn throttle, K&N, and the list goes on. It doesn't seem that any of the internals were tinkered with. The bike is super clean, owned by a military mechanic so he knows his stuff and didn't stunt it. This one is going for $5k. So now it is a choice between the 03 with 27k Miles and this 02 with 18K. Thanks again. I hope to participate more in this forum once i get a 954.

 

Just ran a car fax on the 02 and it says it was involved in a minor or moderate accident. that sucks because it rode so nice. Title is still clean but i don't know if it is worth it.
