Default Will a 929 Regulator work for a 954?

I recently posted the issue of why won't my headlights work and I believe I found my answer. My battery wasn't charging right for a couple weeks, so I installed a new stator which worked great. However when I would plug in my tender at night after riding, my bike wouldn't be at least 80 percent charged like the tender will let you know via a flashing green light. So that was odd but I didn't pay much attention to it until my headlights wouldn't run while my bike was running. They would work fine if the ignition was on but the bike wasn't running, but as soon as the bike was turned on, they would turn off. Well I did some digging and found some nice melted connectors between the stator and the regulator, which leads me to believe the regulator is completely fried and thats why my headlights aren't working properly. So I have a 929 regulator at the moment which is wired almost identical to the 954, but its missing a black wire. According to the haynes, that black wire goes to quite a few different places, so I feel as though I'll need a 954 stator. What do you guys think

well a 929 stator won't fit inside a 954 stator cover. the inner diameters are different and so are the bolt paterns that fit the stator covers.

in short, you need the one for your bike.

I think you brain-farted in the last sentence of your comments. The "stator" you're
refering to is actually the Spare R/R that you have, correct?

Not sure if they will swap, or not. Here's where I picked up my replacement R/R.

ElectroSport - Motorcycle, Dirt Bike and ATV - OEM Quality Stators, Regulator/rectifiers and CDIs

That is definetly the cause of your problem, I'm surprised the bike wasn't
blowing fuses or starting at all.

Good luck, Ern

madhattr is right, you meant reg/rect. i just looked at the diagram, the plug with the double red wire is for the R/R to the harness, not the stator. thats what you think went bad right? - R/R? that plug is definitely fried. i'm sure you could find a replacement one on fleabay for a 954 if you wanted.

the electrosport stuff is really nice though if you want to spend some money.

i dont know if you have another one lying around, you could rig up one that isn't necessarily for your bike though. you'd just need to get both diagrams to know which wires hook up to which. study the 929 diagram. i'm sure you could figure out how to wire it right. and if it was wired wrong, then at least you'd know what went wrong with the system.
