Whats up guys, i ditched my honda a few years ago...went yammy, traded that bike away for a car....now i have the option of trading away my dd car for a 02 954 with 14k miles. it has Erion racing exhaust, new tires, new chain and sprockets, all services up to date, tank pad, steering damper. silver and black basically flawless with one small dent on the tank....clean and clear title with it...looks awesome.
my car is worth about 5500ish, would this be a good trade? is there anything i should know about the 954 with this kinds of miles? i havent had anything more than a 600, but i am not the most aggressive driver anymore, so im not that scared of the power it has on it.

LOL, we're all too busy riding to answer! The 954 is a pretty solid bike (come now, it's a honda). The cam chain can cause some ticking at slow engine speeds. Many people let it go and never have a problem with it. Some replace the cam chain tensioner and it goes away. I've heard some very very rare thing some time ago about engine blocks cracking or being cracked.... but I never figured out if that was just one guy, or a problem that several people have had. I've never heard someone say it happened to them, so I'm not too worried. It's a pretty nice bike with a lot of power and 600ish weight. The only thing I'd do if I were you was buy a steering damper (if it doesn't have one already).

I tell you right now.....the day you aren't "scared" of the power that bike has could easily be your last. Especially never having owned anything over a 600.

 

dunno man usual maintanence... if it's got a clean title and it's in good shape then you'll probably be alright... 5500 is right about where they're selling right now so that'll be an even trade. I'd be careful getting a bike with 14k miles though just cuz of the risk of things that couldhave happened... that's like 100,000 miles in car terms.

 

I recently blew out a fork seal, other than that I have no complaints. I have an 03 954. Got it with 16k and paid 5500 so you are right on target.

i have 22k miles on mine and other than the usual maint. like brake pads and oil ,flter and plugs once (at 20k) never had a problem...

oh yea sorry i forgot that i would probably get slammed by that comment.....by me saying im not scared of the power, i mean, im not gonna use it.....i use my bikes more as a commuter, im past my fast and furious state of mind.
