Default What should I do?

So there's a crack going further then just the stator cover, it's on the actually engine block it's self the crack is small but runs to the actual stator on the engine. I tried to JB weld it and am letting it sit over night. if it still leaks oil afterwards what is the next step is the engine toast? Really pissed right now.

Have it welded. Find a machine shop, or welding shop, that can weld aluminum. Ask them how far they need the bike/motor tore down to do it.

I tried putting JB weld on it for now, will see if that holds it for a bit if not I'm going to have to bring it to a mechanic. my other friend said it can't be welded and it is hard to weld an aluminum block etc is this true?

It is near the bottom of the stator would the engine need to be taken out to weld.

The crack is on the engine case right under the stator it's not a huge crack but it's not the smallest either. Any help would be appreciated

no, you should easily be able to find someone who can TIG that up for you. all they need to do is pre-heat the section where you're welding and weld it up.

a friend in a garage with a mig set-up probably wouldn't be able to do it.... you need to find a welding/fab shop. they'll know what to do.

So they could TIG weld it easy? I have a place around here that does do TIG welding would they be able to set it up for me nice and easy? I'm not sure how much i'm looking at price wise for the weld

How long would a weld like that take and would it require taking the engine out of the bike?

Ask them if they need it removed from the bike. The weld is permanent, cost doesn't matter. The motor is trash without it fixed.

My friend keeps telling me the crack is on the case so the engine would need to be pulled apart for them to weld it he says. I'm not sure if it really would I have no experience welding neither does he. This is just really putting me down. He said it would be tons of money to if the engine would need to be removed.

you posted a picture in the other thread about one similar to yours, right? you need to take a picture of YOURS and i'll tell you. whether or not it needs to come out depends on the welder i would assume. just ask them. and take a picture of YOURS to the welder's. if the crack is not interfering with the oil galley that's right there (the allen key looking thingie) you should be able to get it welded up easily. as far as whether or not it needs to come apart - it depends on where your crack is.

please post a picture of yours. the one you posted in the other thread looks like the crack turns and continues to go up past whatever is blocking the view. that would be harder to weld back together - but i'm sure it could still be done.

it can be done. as far as cost - that all depends on how the welding company charges. and as far as how much you have to take apart - that all depends on the crack

Thanks Conrice you're one of the most helpful members on this forum in my eyes, I talked to a friend we're going to load it up in his truck and take the JB weld off of it and inspect everything and talk to some welders and hopefully get this thing fixed.

I just really hope this thing can be welded up without taking the engine out. A friend of mine said it is a very big job to disassemble the engine, and he keeps saying that crack will need it, but he isn't a welder so who knows for sure if the engine did have to be taken apart how big of a job is that really
