RE: test rode a 1000rr
I have not been able to test ride a 1k rr yet, but I was at the dealer yesterday, and I sat on one,and I was schocked at how light it felt. All the reviews for say that its the mostimpressive 1k ever built. I think the styling is not as classic as the 54. But I think honda is continuing to pump out the best machines on the road period. I think its weird to be talking down on the new 1k because, its an amazing machine. After I sat on it I was courious, it felt lighter, but I got on the internet to compare specs, on the 54 there was a claimed 370 and the 1k brocure in the dealership said the 08 was 430. so the question is did honda get more honest with the claims on the dry weight or is the 54 really that much lighter?

The 954really that lighter. The 08 1k rr has a lower center of gravity and feels nimble between the knees, but is actually a heavier bike. The engine is set alot lower in the chassis on the 1k, thus it feels lighter, not to mention the plastic gas tank. I have been on the 08 1k and its still an impressive machine, but Id like to race one in the twistys and see if it can keep up

I test rode a couple Ducati's a week ago including the 848 and have got to agree with everyone else herethe 954 is simply one of the best sportbikes ever builtlight weight (what do the new ones weigh now???), comfortable, great power to weight ratio, solid brakesand outstanding handling. I dont care what the manufacturers do totry and reinvent the wheel THEY ARE WASTING THEIR TIMEthe 954 is perfection. If I ever kill my 954 Ill rebuild too or buy another.

I'll have to disagree......I like my 954 and love my F4i......But i rode a buddies new 08 100rr awhile back and man that thing is nasty. The weight feels like a 600, but the power is rediculous. Basically its a 600, until u give it throttle. He have up his Ducati 1098s for the 1000rr and it seems to have been the right choice. GRanted the looks of the 1000rr arent all that great. But considering the bike weighs less than my 954 and it has more HP. When u compare HP to weight ratio....Its like comparing apples to oranges.....IMO the 1000rr wins. But the 954 is great because every body and their momma doesnt have one at bike night, LoL.....=-)

Wow either you guys are too young looking or have crappy dealers. I can walk into any dealer around here, drop my license on their desk and get a test ride on anything i want.

me and my cousin went into the dealer considering the 07 leftovers that they have so many of. and even with us thinking about buying 2 of them, they still werent willing to let us test one.

its claimed dry weight is 5lbs heavier, the 07 is 12lbs more than that.

No way in hell the 954 is lighter.....=-)
Last year, Honda became the first manufacturer to pull out of the crazy “dry weight” claims among the OEMs. Since 2007, Honda has been providing a fuelled-up, ready-to-ride weight in its published specifications. And this apparently includes the tool kit and owner’s manual! Below is a rundown of some of the fully fueled weights of CBRs over the years.
1993 CBR900RR: 455 lbs 2003 CBR600RR: 445 lbs (2007 CBR600RR: 410 lbs) 2004 CBR1000RR: 469 lbs 2006 CBR1000RR: 452 lbs 2008 CBR1000RR: 435 lbs

You are trippin... Look up the stats on the honda website... 954 is 370 dry. The 1k is claimed by Honda at 425 DRY WT. I have done every weight reduction measure to my 954 that can be done, and with a full tank of gas it weighs 379 lbs, and dynoed at 149.7 hp to the wheels. Nowthat is a good power to weight ratio. Where you gettin your info?
