stupid fast
I sold my 97 cbr600 f3 and was going to buy a 600 f4i. well i came across an 03 954 rr with 3000 miles on it in perfect condition and completely stock. never been down and has red/black paint scheme. Well to celebrate, i took it on the freeway at 2 in the morning to "test" out my throttle control skills... well i got up to 160 + on the first run and came back down to speed limit. Well a ferrari (not sure what kind) saw this and got up next to me. We both took off and i won. all im going to say is these bikes are stupid fast. i love it.
well, as i said before, my bike is completly stock. its a 49 state bike. what mods are good to start with. Obviously the exhuast has got to go. Also, on the f3 the manual cam tensioner is a common mod. anyone do this to their 954? I already got the integrated turn signals and eliminated the rear fender. any completely bolt up HID kits available? quick shifter? I have the PC on order already. anything else i should know? thx.

RE: stupid fast
these bikes are incredibley fast, although it's never that hard to beat a car.. good mods are full exhuast, PCIII WITH TUNE! PCIII by it self does nothing.. BMC race air filter.. if you really wnat to get to more performance you have to get inside the engine and start the upgrades there..

RE: stupid fast
if you are going to be riding at those speeds-do suspension work first!!-headshake when
hauling *** is not very pleasant!!that bike will bitch slap you so quick and hard- your head
will spin!-do something about it now-atleast a steering damper!!!
lots of engine mods are available-exploit the power you have, then start to work
on the engine-keep it as safe as possible!!
good luck-could not have made a better choice

RE: stupid fast
Wot Outsider8 said; it doesn't take too much to load up the front end on these and then you're in trouble.
If you have a suspension pro nearby it's cheap to get new front and rear springs and revalving - set up for your weight and riding style/conditions.
Few years back a local mag took a 929 and ran dyno tests on a bunch of slip-ons. All were worse on average than the stock can. They robbed low and middle range power for a few more ponies at the top end. And a loud can just advertizes your stupid fast speed to Mr Plod.

RE: stupid fast
Definitely listen to these guys. At those kind of speeds, definitely look at a steering damper and the brake upgrade. If you are anywhere over 150 pounds check out some race tech springs. From what I have read the 954 was dialed in for a 150 pound rider...so seeing that I am about...well, not 150...I upgraded my springs and used some 20wt fork oil. I am running .90 springs and the bike is a completely different animal! I love it. Best $110 I have ever spent. Then I would look at the exhaust and a PCIII. I don't think you can go wrong with that setup! Good luck.
