RE: STOCK HP
"After years of making open class streetbikes (CBR900RR,CBR929RR and CBR954RR)that could also be used as race bikes.Honda reversed course in 04' making the CBR1000RR an all-out race bike that could be used on the street". That statement alone is what would make me choose the 954. I am not a racer, I'm sure I would enjoy a track day now and then. But I like the 350 to 400 mile days through the mountains. For me to do that on the 1000RR I would have to 954 it up a bit. At 6'3 235 I really appreciate my " open class street bike". [sm=shades.gif]

RE: STOCK HP
Hey, that is what Im talking about. Sure the 1000rr will haul *****! But what about comfort? I am 6'5' and I tried both bikes. Come to find out the cockpit and a 954 is much more roomy and has a far better seat. I would not know how they handle side by side but as with the majority of the newer bikes, Im sure the 1000rr would out handle it. Then again, depends on the rider as well. I know the other main reason I went with the 954: insurance! What kinda joke is this- 108 a month for the 954 full coverage OR 240 a month on a '05 1000rr. Yeah go &#$* your self insurance company! With the money I save on insurance I figure I can spruce up the 54 a bit.

RE: STOCK HP
I choose the 954 solely because i couldn't convince myself that i needed the biggest baddest Honda i could find at 20 years old. otherwise i would have gotten a 1000rr. as soon as i graduate college next year, that is my graduation present to myself.
Also, i know what you mean with the ergonomics. I am 6'1" and will be customizing the bike to fit me better.
And to comment on Geezr"
That is the writers opinion. In my opinion the CBR has always been a race bike turned street bike. Cmon, You are going to convince me that a stock 954 with 132 HP and that can wheelie in third gear at over 90 mph is a street bike turned race bike?

RE: STOCK HP
I agree with all statements made here. The one huge factor I love about the 54 is weight. It comes in 15-18lbs lighter than the 1000. The HP to weight ratio makes these 2 machines a very hard choice. I feel the 954 is a perfect balance of both. With my head in the clouds at 5'9" and a 220# frame......My 954 fits me like a condom that you can read the serial numbers on! The 54 offers power to spare, tips in like a lightweight blonde on a glass of wine, predictable, managable slides from both front and rear. Stands up like slapping a Nun's *** in church.......the list goes on and on! I for one will keep this machine and take it to my grave with me. Other machines will come and go, but this one will stay in my arsenal of adrenaline machines!

RE: STOCK HP
I own an 06 1000rr and still ride my previous bike the 954. The 1000 when you first get on it looks huge the gas tank makes it feel way wider than the 954. But I think the 1000 is a more comfy ride simply because the seat is that much better. Also you can feel the power difference. On the 954 I could open it up and not really worry too much about it looping in first. On the 1000 racing stop lights against my brother on my 954 he pulls away from me some times because im totally afraid of the 1000 once it gets to 5k rpms. Even fully leaned on the front of it, it wants to lift off the ground effortlessly. And this is just a Honda I couldnt imagine the take off of the new kawi and suzuki that have like 10 more hp than my bike.
