Default Speedometer backlight flashing???

Every couple minutes the backlight on my speedometer flashings/blinks. Any Idea's on what might be the cause? My headlights and such don't blink and neither do the numbers on the display.

There might be a few things. One is that a pin in the connector is loose and is getting intermittent lose of contact and causing that. There may be an internal short or a failing LED that lights your gauge. Maybe it is a loose fuse, but that would usually affect more things that just that light on the gauge. I don't know if you have any access to another 954...a buddies or something but you can swap gauges and see if yours does the same thing on the other bike. That would be an easy diag. if it is the gauge or not.

Ok. Now put a couple thousand more miles on the bike and now its the whole cluster. Going to go start looking into it here in a minute. But could it be a bad gauge? Or do you guys think loose wiring is to blame?

NO ELECTRICIAN BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE A BASIC SHORT SOMEWHERE. MAY BE THE WIRES, OR IS THERE AN ELECTRIC BOARD INSIDE THE DISPLAY THAT COULD HAVE A CERTAINPART OF IT SHORTING OUT THAT IS CAUSING JUST THE BACKLIGHT TO GO OUT AND NOT THE NUMBERS ON THE SPEEDOMETER. JUST SOME IDEAS THAT CROSSED MY MIND. I NEVER PAYED MUCH ATTENTION TO THAT PART OF THE BIKE.HOPE IT HELPS

The backlight problem is just a bad connection. Won't know if that will correct the other problems or not till I put it all back together and take it for a ride. Off to the store.

how consistant is the blink? is it the same ammount of time in between each blink or does it vary? also does it only do it while riding or at idle also(guessing it does at idle too since you know the headlight does not blink).

All is well and everything is back to normal. It was all linked to a bad connection at the main connection point right behind the cluster. The way the wires were ran was causing some tension on them and thus slightly pulling out the plug. Nothing a zip tie couldn't fix. Hope this info helps someone else!
