Mine feels like that... Just does not have as much power and then right at 3k it picks up. That the same?

could be a million things... any mods to it.. what's status on plugs.. air filter.. etc.. maybe it's just in your head? could be a lot of things hard to tell, ask a friend who has ridden a 954 to ride it

I know exactly what you're talking about. The simple solution is just to give it more gas. Then you'll be above 3k RPM and you'll be going faster. It's a win win solution...

I have been complaining about that since I bought it. Thought it was because of the bolt on exhaust I have. So I bought a PCIII and it still does it. It definately runs smoother and stronger than before but still lags below 3k. If I get on it really hard from a stand still at 3k the front end launches off the ground. Since I can't seem to fix it, I guess I'll just learn to live with it.

maybe it' sjust how you are riding it... i mean.. if you are just starting off.. 1500 and 2k is not goin to be that "hard" if you are launching it correctly then it should shoot out of the hole... i have beat new R1's because of my launch

I think the VTEC has something to do with it because with my D&D I can hear an huge different right at 3k RPM... it's like woooooooWHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Very different sound for sure. I don't really notice a lag but I can believe it.

i thought i had already replied to this...
the stock exhaust valve on everyones bike (who has slipon) doesnt fully open until around 3k rpm you can adjust the cable after i put a new engine in my bike i didnt reinstall the cable correctly and had trouble starting it, also it was set to open at around 6k ...scared the f>SDKFj out of me
