Shock Install
Hey all, I was thinking of doing some suspension upgrades and noticed the manual states you need to remove the entire exhaust system before removing the shock. Am I reading that incorrectly? In any event, is it really necessary or can you loosen things up enough to get enough room to drop the shock. Thanks!
I dont' really remember since I'm aftermarket exhaust at this point, but you can probably get away with dropping the pipe after the HTEV valve. I swapped a shock out the other night and my exhaust would've been in the way but, again, I'm aftermarket. I did remove the lower fairing plastic nuts to open up the bottom.
You should be able to get it without removing the exhaust. As long as you aren't removing the entire lower mount system. Just remove the bolt that holds the lower mount to the triangles and the upper mount.....
The manual is known for having you remove unnecessary items.

the dogbone gets in the way of removing the shock... and to get the dogbone out you have to remove the midpipe, because you can't get the stud out of the dogbone unless you pull it through the mount for the midpipe.
but... if you can get a wrench in there to take the shock mount off of the shock(the very top of it), you should be able to get the rest of the shock out.

Again, thanks all! I know sometimes the service manuals can make jobs more complicated than they really are so appreciate the advice.
t4usaf - I haven't decided yet if I'm going to try to rebuild the stocker or look at the aftermarket, but I'll keep it in mind.
