Second Bike
I am looking at buying a 954RR as my second bike. I had a 600 Hurricane for 3 years and rode it alot but sold it two years ago as I needed the money I am about 6'3" and about 250+ pounds and have been riding bikes of some sort since I was 5 and am 24 now. I am also a very sensible rider, not much into real high speeds on public roads. Do you think a 954 would be too much for me or just about right so that I could grow into it. I also plan on going to a couple of race schools for beginners after I get used to the bike abit.
PS Ive also been looking at a couple of RC51's
Thanks

RE: Second Bike
At least you have the experience behind you. I would be seriously considering an RC51 as well. Sweet machines, & V-twin grunt... not nearly as comfortable or streetable as the 29' or 54' though. 51' is a little worse on gas too. I don't think you could go wrong with either, but try to look for an RC51 SP-2 rather than the SP-1. The SP-2 had some improvements over the previous years model.
In either case, just take it slow. You have been off a machine for a while, and will need to get used to the power characteristics of either bike.
Good luck[8D]

RE: Second Bike
CBRs for the most part are pretty bullet-proof. Check for banged up steering stops, leaking fork seals (too many wheelies), other than that it should be fine.
Take it for a spin first... if the owner is reluctant, then there might be something unseen wrong with it (or they jst don't want you to wreck their baby[&:])
On a ride, check how it shifts, pulsing rotors, head bearing freeplay or obvious wear, suspension, power (should be real smoothe on 54' 29', kinda abrupt on RC51)
take your time, and don't jump on the first deal you find, shop around. Good luck.

RE: Second Bike
I agree with shopping around. I like to look closely at things that other "normal" people wouldn't. Example: Look at the undercarriage, shock, etc. Places that are hard to clean and must have time taken to clean them, etc I think this shows how the bike was maintained and if the person who ownes it takes care of it. Ask to see maintence records or other paper work. I think you'll be fine with a 954. You only goes as fast as you twist the throttle I'm 6'0 about 240 and I love my 954!!!
