Default rear axle stuck

I need some advice on getting the rear axle out. I pounded the axle until it's almost flush with the swingarm, but I can't pull it out. This the first time since I bought new in '03 that the tires coming off. This is getting pitiful because I've got marks on the swing arm from the hammer pounding on it. Help please.

use an extension to hit the end of the axle and drive it thru. Or if pullin it loop your arm thru the rim so you can hold it up and keep it level, that should help.

1. Rubber mallet
2. Wooden dowel
3. Hold or block wheel level

Thanks for the advice, It's really stuck so the wooden dowel will shatter. I'll try the brass or a iron rod. Bearings are ok if the axle spins right?

At this point being only about a 1/3 out after many, many repeated hits, I'm almost about to quit. I don't care about the axle, if it's damaged, i'll buy a new one. The front is off and I've been working on the rear for the last couple days and hours of time. Will a tow truck be able to take a bike without the front and rear wheels? I'm at wits end with this thing.

Get a bigger hammer, if you dont care about damaging the axel because you can replace it then hit it with a sledge hammer. Sounds like the axel could be bent, im sure they could tow it but it will sit on the front forks. Try a bigger hammer and make towing the last resort.

I never had an issue. I was always able to lift the tire up when the tire was off the ground and smack it with my palm. As long as you have the weight off the wheel, it should work pretty easy...
