POWER COMMANDERS
HI, I just purchase my Honda 954 RR and Im loving it!!! The bike I just purchased is from Chicago and I live in California. It came with MICRON canister/slip-on exhaust. It sounds nice but but Im a HIGH-MOUNT fan and I need to have it. I purchase DEVIL HIGH-MOUNT slip-on exhaust and Is running weaker. When I hit it-it like hesitate til 6,000/7,000 RPM and then kicks in and goes. I heard that I need DYNO-JET POWER COMMANDER (I know what it is) but I dont understand why? When I change exhaust from stock to aftermarket I change the out let of the gases not the mixture of gas & air (RIGHT) so why do I need to add more fuel? Now I heard that there is O2 sensor? I didn't see it on the exhaust when I replace it, I'm just realy confused with the whole exhaust thing and puting power commander. Please HELP ME with the whole situation, What O2 sensor? why power commander on aftermarket exhaust? If you have any professional shops or any good advice please let me know, Thanks
You're thinking all the right things. Yes... SOME 954s have O2 sensors. In fact, the cali models are the ones that are supposed to have the O2 sensors. If your bike was NOT originally sold in cali, IT DOES NOT HAVE AN O2 SENSOR. Why you ask? Well, if you ever figure that out please tell me. I have wondered the same thing myself. I don't really understand the point of having fuel injection without an O2 sensor.... why go halfway with something like that?? My bike stutters a bit also, so I too was thinking about buying a PCIII USB, but if you get the PCIIIr, you can adjust timing but have to connect through the serial port on your computer... or at least that's what I hear. The next portion of my investigation was to see if I could put an O2 sensor on my bike.... I'll keep you posted if I figure out a way, but it's way too nice out to take the damn thing apart.
Sorry for the rambling, but I was thinking the same thing. Powercommander is the easy fix and I'll let you know if I figure anything out about the O2 sensor.
P.S. in case you don't know... the O2 sensor is an on the fly (while you're driving... thousands of times a second) measurement and adjustment of the fuel ratio. Without an O2 sensor, you have to have a set air/fuel ratio in the bike's ECM that does NOT get verified by any computer control system. In other words... it's setup for stock only, and if you change anything on the engine, your air fuel ratio will be off.

The power commander is a unit that you can adjust your AIR/FUEL mixture, when you changed your exhuast you screwed up that mixture, with fuel injected bikes it's less of a problem, but it's a good idea to get a PCIII and get it tuned, you will get your mixture correct, power will be smooth and u can gain a HP or two, PCIII by it self does nothing and will most likely not correct your problem unless u get a dyno tune done
