Oil type and amount
I just got a 954 and i love it. I need to change its oil tho and cant seem to find out how much exactly it requires. Also what kind do you guys recomend. The previous owner says it has always only seen synthetic. Thanks
there is a downloadable service manual on a sticky thread on the top of the 954 page. They'll have the amount. I think it's like 3.4 quarts. If you're going to change the filter, I suggest getting an oil filter wrench from the dealership. It's like 8 bucks and is totally worth it. I always get the dealership honda oil just to make sure I dont F it up, but a lot of people use synthetic, u can use it as long as it doesn't have any oil additives. You can tell by the label on the back of the oil container...
it's close to 3.5 quarts... buy 4... put 3 in.. and start with the 4th and watch it and get the oil level right in the middle of the window on the right side there on the engine case, good idea to change filter everytime, only 4-5 extra bucks and well worth it... good idea would be 10w40 full synthetic... depending on where you live
3.9 quarts is what it calls for.
Regular honda oil is about $5 a quart, synthetic is about $8 per quart.
The advantages of synthetic are smoother shifting and longer periods between oil changes (typically 5-6000)
disadvantages of synthetic are $$$$
(I just did this today so its fresh in my head from the dealer)

Im new to bikes, but not to engines and oil. once you use full synthetic in an engine it is not the best idea to go back to a synthetic blend or especially regular. unless im missing something about bikes in which case i apologize for anyway, i stand behind amsoil all they way, i use it in in my truck from engine to differential... and when i change the oil in my bike the first time ill use it init too
