Default oil pressure problem and possible solution

I found an extreme amount of debris from blown clutches on my oil pickup. Hi res pictures:
What I learned: When I blow a clutch, clean out the engine oil pickup and pan.

IT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. I rode it this morning, oil pressure light came on when I was on the highway. Then I started to lose power. Then the engine locked up. I spun some bearings.[:@]

That really sucks. From the look of the material on the screen, it didn't look like there was enough there to block flow to the point of giving a problem.

How much would a replacement oil pump have been?

<edit> nevermind. I saw the pump was $110 and you complained at that cost. Seems like that would have been pretty cheap at this point. Also wondering if you ever checked the oil pressure as was suggested?

I am permanently mounting a gauge next time around.

Time for the teardown. The engine comes out this weekend. I don't think I am ready to make the serious HP, but I think I am going to shoot for 160-170.

Also, I did Notice a lot of metal and shiny stuff in the oil last night that looked too small for theoil filter. Anyone know of a better oil filter than the Honda one to clean the oil better?

what type of oil do you use?? i always used the k&N oil filters.. but i think you have more of a serious issue..if you have that much clutch debris and also metal shavings in your oil you need to change your riding habits

Well, the metal is because you blew your engine and rode with no oil pressure. No oil filter will help you there. However, The Pure One oil filters are supposed to be the best filters one can get (according to testing) There are two that supposedly fit my 600 and from what I've read, that same unit may fit most Honda sportbikes. (PL14612 and PL14610 -the 14610 is a slightly longer unit that is recommended if you have room) I haven't changed to that filter yet as I need to do an oil change for winter maintenance. the price at the parts store was $5.88 and on Amazon they are like $10 for 2. Sure beats the $13 or so that the Honda one cost me last year.[:@]

Also, car mfgs put a magnetic strip at the bottom of the oil pan to catch that stuff before it even hits the pickup. Probably wouldn't work to well though for bikes because everything is aluminum.
