Oil change!!

It's time to change the oil in my 2002 954 with almost 21000+ miles. Is the a brand/type of oil that is better for higher mileage engines.

HP4 or HP4S from Honda are both good choices for your bike. I am currently running HP4S in my 954 and my riding buddy has always used HP4 in his 929.

Rotella T or Rotella T6 (blue bottle synth) at walmart.
Great oil, easy to get, and it's cheap.
About $11 gal for the regular stuff or $20 for the synth.

Aside from the difference between synthetic conventional oils, oil pretty much is oil. You'll always have some Amsoil dude try to tell you different but as long as you stay away from the energy conserving oils and use the viscosity stated in your manual, you'll be fine.

Some are concerned that the "energy-conserving" motor oils may have "friction modifiers" which will cause clutch slippage. Since that is a legitimate concern it is best to use only oils which are NOT "energy-conserving for motorcycles with wet clutches." Read the back of the container. It clearly identifies this. In general, only the very lighter oils, like 10w30, 10w20, 5w20, are energy-conserving. All 5w40, 5w50, 10w40, 15w40, 15w50, and 20w50 oils which I have found are not energy-conserving and can be recommended for general motorcycle use.
