Default Newbie here.

Well got rid of my old bike Buell S1 1200cc lightning.Whatof a pile of crap. Don't get me wrong when it would actually run you could tear up the twisties & the sound of the v-twin could set off car alarms. But i couldn't deal with the breakdowns anymore. So i went out and bought a 2002 954RR.I was looking at the new 1000RR but their is just something about the 954 that i just like. Here is my question what can you guys tell me about my bike. I don't know a lot about them. I know Honda i'm a Honda guy that is the only quad i'll own. Just don't know alot about the Sportbikes.

Thanks, Clint

Lean, mean, fuel-injected machine!

Your new bike is a 58 cubic inch, inline-four cylinder powerhouse (ci. just for your old Harley days, lol!). Awesome torque and low, midrange power. It's not the fastest bike on the block, but it's one of the nicest looking. No one really needs to use all that available speed anyway,

The 954 is complimented greatly by a steering damper, since you made a reference to carving canyons, I would defninitely recommend you find yourself a nice damper as the 9's are very front-light. The like to come up on hard accelration (like coming out ofa corner), and will even come up if riding in a straight line if you're getting on it. A stabilizer will instill confidence in you like nothingelse on this bike.

I personally feel like you have the best looking bike Honda ever made. I am starting to like the front of the 929 over the 54, and I've always liked the assend of the 54. I might do a conversion down the road (I've got a 929).

You've got more trunk space than anyone else on a Honda (save the 929's), which I like. I can fit around6 DVD's, my hat, 16oz. RedBulland misc tools and still have room for whatever (PowerCommander).

Let's see...

For specs, I think Honda claimed around 150HP, but the actual reading by most owners is around 135-145HP depending on the mods. Top speed somewhere around 160-170 true MPH.

FYI, I have recently learned that K&N doesn't like our bikes (929-954), as the addition of their air filter will reduced overall HP compared to the stock or BMC race filter. I haven't confirmed this to be true on the 54's, but they're almost the same bikes...

When it comes to sourcing parts, you'll find there isalot interchangeable on the 29'/54's. There is always about 4 pages of aftermarket stuff for the 54's on eBay as well. I look everyday.

Brakes are big up front, huge rotors...

Can't think of a whole lot else. Let me get my smoke on, it'll come back to me.

Wlecome to the family! I'm curious to see pics of your Harley, tell us a bit about the power delivery of that 'ol V-twin (or is it a V2?).

Kid you only get 4 pages on ebay? I usually end up with over 1000items by just typing "cbr 954" or "cbr 929". The 954/929 are very unique because there were only made for a few years unlike gixxers and zx's and yzf's. and they look bad ***!

Welcome and you got a great bike, the only thing i would add is they are also very comfortable for a rocket compared to a lot of other brands, and especially newer bikes.

Welcome and congrats on the purchase. The bike is quick, light and very fun..... I plan on keeping mine for a long long long long long time.

Recommendations are install a Steering Damper, Pri one. I waited for one year and after I put one on I realized it was well worth the money.

I also did all the mods like flapper, HTEV, etc and to me the best setup was aftermarket pipe or full exhaust system,P3usb, O2 blocker (for CA. models), Double bubble windsheld, and a 190/55-17 rear tire really allows the bike to dip into the corners quick BUT is makes accelleration slower so you'll have to compensate with +3 teeth on the rear sprocket.
