This is gonna be fun. DJ, If I were you, I would continue to post all your questions/issuesonly on this thread. That way, when its all over, we can see it from start to finish. Should be really long. Hopefully longer than Joeys.

Im pretty sure that manual is good for both 02and 03. If the parts are on there and they work then i would not worry too much about that. The forks on my 954 are from a completely different bike, same with the clip ons and tripple tree and it works fine, I had to rigg it so that the clipon controls did not hit the tank when i turn the wheel but they work just fine. Biggest thing is getting it working properly and then from there you can work out the smaller details.

i'd like to see an array of pictures of the bike, and to know what it cost in its current condition.

i dont think that was listed, but i may have missed it if it was.

but yeah, pics and you'll get all the help you need right here.....like, if you need a pro, we'll tell you

Welcome, I have a stator cover that is just collecting dust. It has minimal rash but can be stripped and polished. You just need to get a gasket or make one with gasket maker. Also there is to many people with much experience here so if you get to the point where yoru scratching your head i can guarentee you 100% that you come here and we'll get you threw it. Pictures would be very nice because I have several parts that are just laying around such as: top tripple tree, stator cover, and passanger peg assy. Also you can get alot of parts cheap off of ebay, fairing kits minus the tank for about 450.

Thanks for the advice again. I'll take some pictures tonight and get them online asap. As far as I can tell there is nothing major wrong with it. It starts up and purrs very nicely and has a great sound. Some of the fluids are a bit low and then there is that leak - thats the only major thing worrying me. I'll make sure to get pics of as much stuff as I can so you get a few from all angles and might be able to identify any problem easier. Like I said before I will be putting this in my girlfriends parents garage and working on it on the weekends. Her parents' neighbor is a pretty good mech so I'll probably have him helping me too so hopefully he can pick out anything major that might not show up in the pictures and I miss.

A Stator cover would be awesome, how much they go for? and the gasket? I'm going to need some extra bolts and things, all of the cosmetics from fairings, headlights mirrors to tail. new tires is a must - it has some dunlops on it now but they look about 50% or less and I've heard bad things about them... any recommendations on this front? I need to get under the tank and replace one of the plugs as well... should I replace them all at the same time or just the one? I have no idea how old the others are, I'll have a look at em first I suppose. Also need a new air filter, shouldn't be to bad though. I'll get those pics up asap so you can all see how things really look. girlfriend came down and we saw wall-e last night, didn't have time for anything else.

this might be a big project and it might be more than I can do at the moment, but hey, it's going to be fun and i'm going to learn a lot + her parents have a pool and I get free food when we go up there... not a bad deal.
