Default New to the 954rr crew...

Hey gang... I just got an 02 CBR 954rr... I am new to CBRs but have had street bikes in the past... The one I got has 27K on the clock but was well maintained by a fella the was keen on this bike, plus I got it at a great price. The bike runs great... Smooth idle, great thru the gears, firm shifts, solid shocks and forks. There are a few goodies... Yoshi slip-on, P3 power commander tuned by a proper shop, steel braided brake lines, frame sliders and flush mount turn signals. The sprockets and tires are new-ish and in great shape... Is there anything I should look for regarding these bikes... Any common failings or weak links... Any recommendations as what to look for... And last but not least... What mods really work on these bikes... Thanks...

enjoy that bike! they're great solid bikes. the only weakness is if they're not maintained. but if they are maintained, they are work horse bikes that will do whatever you want it to do.

the only thing that was ever an issue was with the 954 was a batch of '03 motors that had a bad casting with the motor case where coolant would leak out of the water jacket on the cylinders. and all of those motors would have that happen within the first 10,000 miles. since yours is an '02 and has almost 30k, you have nothing to worry about!

Congrats and welcome to the crew! My advice....Ride her hard and put her away wet! The 954 is a great machine. Take care of her and she will take care of you.

Gday from Australia, my story was similar to yours RydnaCBR, got myself a 954 6months ago 4 a great price $3000aus he'd dropped it and obviously didn't know about aftermarket fairings, ($340painted) it has Akrapovic exhaust, steering damper, gearack+ventura, heated grips and a cover so I thought after adding all that myself the bike was almost free! I've just had 1 problem so far, charging system battery wouldn't hold charge replaced reg/rec and a week later the stator died. Waiting for that now. But other than that I'm still smiling, all the time!
