thats definitely a knock. sorry to hear that.

if it were me, id go to an auto parts store and buy a stethoscope. try to figure out where it is at in the motor. and then go from there, but you're looking at a motor pull either way, and then replacing the bearings. or it could be wrist-pin slap too, which is also not good.

if you're not comfortable doing the work yourself, its going to be cheaper to buy another running motor than having a mechanic diagnose and fix the motor you have now.

its weird it only does it if i ride it. if i jus let it heat up in my driveway, it wont do it & ud think nothings wrong with the bike. take it for a little ride and the nightmare begins.

This I want to know. I'm about to put Royal Purple synthetic in mine. Not sure if it will cause clutch slippage though. Hmmmmmm...

well, if dillinger was running dinosaur oil - which breaks down (gets thin) as it heats up, and you were really close to the low oil level, its feasible that you could have oil pressure drops that could result in really fast wear to the bearings and could cause a knock....

but until you could get at it with a stethoscope, you couldn't really tell what it would be or what would cause it.

how many miles are on the motor?

Have the valves ever been checked? How many miles on it? I couldn't tell, is it making the noise at idle or just revving it?

Check your header bolts, mine keep backing out. Not saying it's an exhaust leak, but they can make quite a racket, should hear it at idle though.

i don't know man... i mean, the reason it doesn't do it while in its in your driveway is because the motor hasn't had a load on it yet, but damn... one you do ride it, its there. get a stethoscope from an autoparts store, you'll be able to tell where its at location wise on the motor... that'll help
